Twitter Wars!

First and foremost, I would like to point out that I have just recently gotten back into watching wrestling since roughly around last year when it was announced that The Rock was back for 2011’s Wrestlemania event. I had been checking in to see what he was doing on the shows and have been tuning in pretty much since.

The Grammy awards took place this year, awarding Chris Brown one as well as showcasing him in two performances throughout the night. At this point (and ever since), Twitter was all the rage to voice your opinions against or for the Chris Brown love fest that took place. Celebs from Miranda Lambert, Michelle Branch, and Wil Wheaton were among the many who openly questioned the lovefest that was going on. Chris Brown then responded by saying something to the effect of “Hate all you want because I have a Grammy now. The Ultimate F off!” which was deleted quickly.  Soon after, the trend tag #RIPChrisBrown started going and yadda yadda yadda. Things kind of fizzled out with it until WWE Champion, CM Punk Retweeted “Last Word of the subject: on a blog last night “Think Chris Brown would be at Grammys if he’d beaten the S out of Taylor Swift?” #hmmmm” and then tweeted “I would like @ChrisBrown fight somebody that can defend themselves. Me curbstomping that turd would be a #wrestlemania moment.” to which Chris Brown tweeted back about CM Punk being all steroided out and so on. CM Punk posted a video response to Chris addressing the steroid accusation as well as a fight challenge below…

For now, I think this ends the little twitter war, but on to my thinking about this…

Why is it that CM Punk is really the only person who has called him out on it? Even after 3 years or so, people were clapping and cheering him on at the Grammy awards like nothing ever happened. The common defense for Brown is that “he made a mistake and it happened 3 years ago”. Uh? A mistake? Losing your temper and hitting Rihanna maybe once could possibly be played off as a mistake, but repeatedly punching her in the face, arms, legs, biting her, and trying to choke her unconscious is hardly a mistake. The length of time that has passed since the incident is irrelevant, period! So people think that 3 years is enough time for savagely beating a female to just go away? The picture is still online of Rihanna’s face that looked like she went 5 rounds with a UFC champion. And so what if Rihanna has reconciled with Chris Brown. The fact of the matter is that women get beaten like this all over the world! Not just Rihanna. Some don’t even live to have the opportunity to decide wether they want to forgive and forget the incident.

In closing, I have found a greater respect for CM Punk as well as the WWE for not squashing this twitter war. Somebody of some kind of notoriety needed to openly call out Chris Brown on his actions and I’m glad that it has taken place. Great video reply by CM Punk. His thing on WWE television is that he is the Voice of the Voiceless and this proves it!

NOTE: This is most likely the only time I will write about CHRIS BROWN on The Chatterbox Blog… unless he decides to man up for a CM Punk fight!

Happy Valentine’s Day from The Chatterbox

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody! I hope you’re having a fun-filled day with your significant other or a group of close friends… and a POSITIVE one at that!

This morning, I happened to log in to my facebook account to wish a childhood friend Happy Birthday (since they share a birthday with the romantic holiday and I seem to remember it almost every year) and my newsfeed was loaded with status upon status upon status bashing this “made up holiday”. Good grief… I think with all the negativity these people are spewing, there is probably a reason why they are bitter on Valentine’s Day. This seems to be a trend with things lately and it bothers me. I read everything from Valentine’s Day being a made-up holiday to sell greeting cards and candies to its a stupid holiday that’s only good for holiday hook-ups. I’m seriously questioning the character of my facebook friends… seriously!

Personally, I plan to spend a nice quiet evening with my lovely ladies at home. Nothing flashy or over-priced here, just dinner, bath for my soon to be 4-year-old daughter, painting her finger and toenails, and maybe a couple of movies snuggling on the couch (I believe it will be Mr. Popper’s Penguins and Lady and the Tramp). Then if Zoe cooperates, I’ll probably be catching the latest Twilight movie with my wife. As dull as it may sound, this is the ideal Valentine’s evening for me (maybe hold off on the Twilight lol). Let me also not forget that it is our trash night, so taking out garbage is on the list. Maybe I’ll line the driveway with candles and put some Kenny G on my ipod… just maybe.

Ultimately, this post is just an excuse to share my lunchtime doodle with everybody. Enjoy!

Madness is not a requirement for this position, but it helps!

Welcome back, Chatterfolk. Today, I want to discuss various things I see or have seen in the Customer Service field.

1) The customer is always right… right?
The answer is only correct if the customer says “Man, I’m such an idiot!” or “I’m acting like such a jerkoff today!” but rarely is the customer actually right when they use that phrase. They’re basically trying to bully you into giving them their way… typically during an in-person encounter. It always makes for a fun scenario!

2) Hi, my name is (insert name here) and I…

 a) Have been a customer for a long time.
This usually means that they have goofed on something like let a coupon or gift certificate expire and they are looking you to do them a solid by letting it slide or are trying to get free product by working the system. A “long time” customer potentially knows the tricks of the trade and uses them to full advantage. A school supply company I used to work for (terrible company who doesn’t deserve a name mention) had order/account history on customers and without fail in patterns you would see original order, then a week later a no charge replacement, then another week later one more no charge replacement, and then finally a credit (if the dollar amount is low enough, they’ll just tell you to hang onto the product with no questions asked). This would go on for years with these customers. Essentially, these schools/daycares/offices were getting 3 of the same product for the price of nothing.

b) refer to themselves as a “Top Customer” or “Best Customer”…
These customers will put you in that awkward conversation of asking for coupons and money off just because they label themselves as a top customer. I think there should be a rule of thumb that if you’re denied for a discount more than twice, the CSR should be able to yell at the customer with no hard feelings. I understand that everybody is living tight these days, but organizations need to make money to stay afloat too! Just saying…

In closing, the reason why I’m writing this is because I’ve found myself doing this lately and I must admit, I’m a little disappointed in myself. The same things that irritate me, are the same things I do when I’m on the customer end of a phone call. Don’t get me wrong, I rarely talk on the phone outside of work, but I make sure to work all angles when I am on the phone. If I get really desperate, I threaten with turning the company in to the Better Business Bureau. I actually pulled this card last night due to a $20 charge on my Chase card (that I hadn’t activated in 5 years) that “went through” because it was a small dollar amount. I replied to them with “if it’s such a small dollar amount, then you’ll have no problem in eating it”. Boom goes the dynamite!

Final Thought: The reason why businesses are hiring people who barely speak our language is because of people like myself and you who try to weasel a couple of bucks out of organizations. These people from overseas are like a rock (no emotions), and can use the language barrier to their advantage when there is a difficult customer on the line. Even the “top customer” type who will stay on the phone longer to try to get an extra dime out of you will be dying to wrap the call up. Nobody wants to be on the phone with somebody when you don’t understand half of what they’re saying. Am I right?

Inspire Me! (Random Thoughts part 3)

Welcome back, friends to another edition of my random thoughts here on The Chatterbox Blog!

So I’m now labeling my Random Thoughts with a subject rather than just Random Thoughts. Somebody told me that even if I have a blog following, viewers like to know kind of what to expect rather than “I like to eat hot sauce n my eggs.” I guess it’s a valid point. Nobody is going to get excited or “inspired” for something like that. So let’s try a different approach!

I’ve been noticing alot lately that certain kinds of foods are affecting the way my body works for the day. For instance, I’ve been eating quite a bit of fast food lately and I can feel a difference in how my body is responding. I’ve been sluggish and in a state of mind to procrastinate (hence the lack of blog posts and graphic design work I’ve been sharing). Today, I willed myself to wake up a little early and prepare a nice Greeney salad with Tuna topping it. So far so good. I feel energized and excited at the possibility to put a stamp on the end of my day! I will touch base with more of my food experimenting in future blogs.

I labeled this entry as “Inspire Me!” because I have been feeling uninspired with things lately and am having a hard time coming up with inspiration to get my creative juices flowing. I have tons of wonderful starter ideas, but have been struggling to find the motivation to act on them. What the heck is my problem?

In closing of this entry, I’d like to reach out for inspiration. The best comments, twitter replies, or e-mails will be posted here and I’ll write about each one! In the mean time, I’m going to keep searching as well. Be sure to follow me on twitter (if you aren’t already) @_The_Chatterbox. Hey! I recently hit 100+ followers! That should be reason enough for inspiration, right? Of course it is! Until next time…
