A Christmas Story House!
Welcome back to The Chatterbox blog! With August coming to a close, it’s time to get in the mindset of Fall, Halloween, Winter, and Christmas! I know it’s still way too early, but today I am reviewing A Christmas Story House located in Cleveland, OH. If you’re wondering, YES this is the actual house from the movie. Basically, if you were seeing the house in the movie, it was this very location. Over the past few years, they have been adding many new re-discovered props as well as updated merchandise items. Inside the museum/gift shop, you can actually purchase items from the movie like the infamous Leg Lamp, The Red Ryder BB Gun, Lifebuoy Soap, and even everybody’s favorite chocolatey drink… Ovaltine!
For myself, A Christmas Story House brings back many great holiday memories. Even as a young child, this was always one of our favorite movies. To be able to walk through the house and to see it set up as close to the way it was in the movie is absolutely incredible. I found myself reciting many lines from the movie when we saw a specific prop or place setting. Here are some pictures to show what I’m talking about…
Also in the gift shop/ museum portion of the tour sat one of the original extras from the movie who happened to be a local to the area when the film was shot. He points out his big acting debut in helping to deliver the crate (not the rude delivery guy; this guy was behind the crate) which is very cool even to have your back on film in such a cult holiday classic! He is very informative and has some very unique stories about the actors. It was really cool to watch him talk about it and light up as he is reliving.
In closing, the trip was/is well worth it. This is one of my favorite movies of ALL TIME so it’s very surreal to be able to walk in the house and put yourself in the same point of view as Ralph Parker. My suggestion? Go around Black Friday. More than likely it will be busy, but it really helps jumpstart the Holiday spirit (if you’re the type that has a hard time feeling it each year). I hope to see you there this year! Be sure to follow me on twitter @_The_Chatterbox as I’ll be posting many other great blogs about other holiday activities. Until next time…
